Thistle Place Park
Working with Urban Play to realise Peet’s vision for Village Green Estate, Moduplay supplied the equipment for a landmark new playspace at Thistle Place Park. A 7.6-metre Connect tower and custom artwork panels bring Thistle Place’s native flora and fauna into the play experience. Designed for every age and ability, it shows what strong partnerships and Australian-made play can deliver.

Thistle Place Park sits within the Sage Neighbourhood of Village Green Estate, a growing residential community on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Peet wanted to create a playground that would serve children across different ages, abilities and styles of play. Local students were invited to help shape the direction of the equipment, bringing the perspective of the children who would ultimately use the space into the project.
The finished playground forms part of a wider 1.5-hectare park with open lawns, shaded gathering areas and connected walking and cycling paths. At its centre is the largest play equipment offering delivered within Village Green Estate to date.
Different Ways to Play
Possum Heights is the main adventure zone. Anchored by the 7.6-metre Custom Connect Tower, it brings height, movement and challenge together through an 8-metre giant slide, 5.5-metre flying fox, climbing walls, nets, fire poles and multiple levels to explore.
Echidna Zone creates a gentler experience for younger children, with sensory activities, accessible play panels and a smaller tower and slide.
Wombat Den offers space for social play away from the highest-energy parts of the playground.
Accessible pathways and multiple entry points connect the zones, helping children move through the space and find an experience that suits them, ensuring there is something for every child.
Making Landmark Scale Achievable
The central challenge was delivering a large, visually distinctive tower within the available equipment budget.
Connect provided the structural foundation needed to make that scale achievable. Its configurable round-post system allowed the tower, platforms, climbing challenges, panels and play elements to be arranged around the project brief without requiring an entirely one-off structural system.
The proprietary fitting system created cleaner connections with fewer failure points, while supporting faster installation, simpler maintenance and future access to locally manufactured replacement parts. Connect gave the project team a proven framework while leaving room to concentrate design effort on the tower’s silhouette, play journey, colour palette and artwork.
For developers and landscape architects, this is where the system offers real value: the freedom to create a site-specific landmark with the efficiencies and reliability of an established Australian-made system.
With the playground located on the Sunshine Coast, resistance to moisture, salt and harsh weather conditions needed to be considered from the beginning. Extreme Marine Protection is built into the Connect system as standard, providing marine-grade materials and corrosion resistance without requiring the coastal protection package to be added later.
Artwork and Theme That Belongs and Resonates
Perspex artwork panels turn the tower into more than a large play structure. They give it a story connected directly to the surrounding landscape. Created specifically for Thistle Place Park, the illustrations feature flora including Coastal Banksia (Banksia integrifolia), Queensland Peppermint (Eucalyptus exserta) and paperbark trees (Melaleuca).
Throughout the panels, children can also discover a scaly-breasted lorikeet, koala, laughing kookaburra, ring-tailed possum, glossy black cockatoo, Queensland blossom bat and pink underwing moth. The artwork was composed around the shape, scale and clear areas of each panel so it could become part of the equipment itself. The transparent format retains visual openness through the tower while introducing detailed scenes for children to notice from different levels.
From the ground, the panels strengthen the tower’s native wildlife identity. Up close, they reward exploration with smaller characters and details that can be discovered through repeat visits.
Brought to Life Through Partnership
Urban Play led the playground project, working closely with Peet and the broader consultant team to translate the brief into a cohesive play experience.
As Moduplay’s Queensland project partner, Urban Play brought its understanding of the client, landscape and local requirements into each stage of the equipment process. Moduplay supported that vision through in-house design, engineering and Australian manufacturing, supplying the complete play equipment packag.
That relationship allowed detailed decisions to move between the project and manufacturing teams, from the configuration of the tower through to the composition and production of the transparent artwork panels.
The result shows the strength of combining local project leadership with direct access to the people designing and manufacturing the equipment.
