Somerville Park has been transformed into a district-scale community destination, with a landmark playground at the centre of a wider multi-million dollar park upgrade by Glascott. Designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia, the playground introduces the City of Parramatta’s first multi-tower play structure and creates more ways for local children and families to play, move and spend time outdoors.

Creating a New Landmark for Eastwood
City of Parramatta set out to give Somerville Park a new role within the growing Eastwood community. Informed by local consultation, the wider plan was built around the idea of a shared backyard: an accessible public space supporting play, exercise, sport and social connection across different ages.
The playground needed to match that ambition. Rather than replacing the existing equipment with another conventional local playground, the project called for a district-scale play experience with the capacity, visual presence and variety to become a destination in its own right.
Play Built Around a Multi-Tower Centerpeice
The centre of the playground is a custom multi-tower structure designed to create height, movement and a strong sense of adventure.
A series of elevated towers, netted crossings, climbing routes and enclosed tube slides gives children multiple ways to move through the structure. Different paths and levels allow them to choose their own challenge, build confidence and return to discover a new route each time.
The height and scale create immediate impact within the park, while the surrounding play experiences broaden the space beyond the main tower. Swings, interactive elements, play panels, the smaller slide section and rockers provide opportunities for physical, active, sensory and social play across the playground.
Australian-Made from Concept to Completion
The playground was handled end to end by Moduplay’s Australian team, from the first concepts and detailed engineering through to manufacturing and delivery.
Transporting the large-scale structure required careful coordination, including oversize permits, pilot vehicles and a night-time journey from the Moduplay factory to Eastwood. It was a significant logistical effort, but one that allowed the design intent and scale of the structure to be maintained through to the finished space.
The project demonstrates what can be achieved when local design, engineering and manufacturing work together on a major public-space brief. It also reflects City of Parramatta’s continued investment in Australian-made infrastructure, supporting local capability while delivering equipment designed for Australian conditions.
More Than A Playground Opening
The playground forms part of a wider renewal that includes a multipurpose sports half-court, outdoor fitness stations, improved walking circuits, accessible parking and connections to Pearl Avenue. Landscaping and final construction works were delivered with Glascott, helping connect the playground with the renewed park environment.
Since opening, Somerville Park has become a place where children, families, sports clubs and residents can use the park in different ways at the same time. Its new playground provides a recognisable meeting point and a lasting play destination for Eastwood.
For Moduplay, it is also a strong example of the scale, complexity and community impact that can be delivered through Australian-made play.
