Sunray Crescent
Beneath the canopy of a fig tree, Sunray Crescent Playground offers a welcoming place for Horsley’s youngest adventurers to climb, slide, swing and play. Delivered for Wollongong City Council, the renewed playground combines age-appropriate challenges with a design carefully shaped around its leafy residential setting.

Designed around its surroundings
Located within a quiet cul-de-sac and accessible from two surrounding streets, the playground required a considered approach. Equipment heights were kept low to protect neighbouring sightlines, while musical elements were excluded to minimise noise near surrounding homes.
The compact equipment footprints also reduce potential impacts on the established fig trees, allowing the playground to sit comfortably beneath their natural shade, and finishes were selected to complement the green, leafy character of the reserve.
Play for growing confidence
Designed primarily for younger children, the playground offers easy staircase access to a 1200 mm-high double slide, allowing children and carers to share the excitement side by side. The Skippy Swing Seat creates another opportunity to play together, while the Monty Rocker keeps the fun moving.
As confidence grows, children can explore rope climbs, vertical nets and step-up access points that introduce greater challenge. A fire pole adds an extra thrill for older or more adventurous users.
The open configuration creates a natural flow throughout the playground, giving children room to move between activities, follow their friends and enjoy active group play.
Comfortable space for families
The existing bench was replaced within the playground and moved to ensure maximum visibility, positioning carers closer to the action. Sandstone blocks provide additional informal seating, with clear sightlines across the equipment for easier supervision.
The result is a compact neighbourhood playground that balances engaging play, environmental care and consideration for nearby residents, creating a comfortable place for local families to gather beneath the trees.
