Appin Park
Appin Park is a deliberately different kind of community play space. Delivered for Wollondilly Shire Council, long-standing advocates for meaningful, inclusive play. The design moves beyond a single-unit model to prioritise movement, skill-building and active play.
Project Overview
- Project Type
- Council & Government
- Budget (Equipment Only)
- $400,000 – $430,000

- 2025
Rather than centering the design around a single feature, the park brings together a mix of learn-to-ride and physical challenge elements that encourage confidence, coordination and repeat engagement. The layout supports a natural flow through the space, allowing users to move seamlessly between riding, climbing and balance-based play. Read more about designing beyond the big unit here.
Key elements include:
- A learn-to-ride circuit supporting bikes, scooters and wheeled play
- A Wild Ninja-style area
- A RePlay™ recycling truck, embedding sustainability into the play experience
As a turnkey project, Appin Park was delivered through close coordination from concept to installation, ensuring the final outcome aligned with site conditions, council objectives and long-term community use. The result is a flexible, active play space that complements its surroundings while offering something genuinely different.
More than a destination, Appin Park functions as a daily-use community asset. Located near the local school, and used by many families who walk to and from school each day, the space naturally becomes a meeting point before and after school. Supporting skill development, active lifestyles and everyday connection through play. It’s a strong example of how alternative play typologies can deliver lasting value when design intent leads the process.
