The City of Wollongong, in partnership with Moduplay, created a considered design to ensure the playground caters to a wide range of ages and abilities. The park also features gated off access, giving parents flexibility and peace of mind. It truly highlights how vital the community is in creating spaces that draw people together and encourage outdoor play.
The centre of this playground features a colourful Ranger Connect unit, while compact in size, there is mighty play potential. Featuring a twisting tube slide and an open side, the integrated geo climber adds a challenging and engaging climbing element. It’s supported by a variety of freestanding equipment, including:
Situated between the rolling hills and the sparkling coastline, JJ Kelly Park captures the essence of Wollongong’s natural beauty. Recognising the challenges posed by its coastal location, such as salt spray, high humidity, and strong winds, the park’s playground equipment has been fortified with Moduplay’s Extreme Marine Protection Package. This comprehensive solution is engineered to withstand the harshest marine environments, ensuring the playground’s longevity and safety.
The Extreme Marine Package goes beyond standard corrosion protection. It incorporates premium materials like marine-grade aluminium or stainless steel for structural elements, high-grade stainless steel for all hardware and fasteners, and advanced coating systems specifically designed for corrosive environments. Each component undergoes meticulous pre-treatment and is finished with the highest-grade powder coatings, creating a robust barrier against the elements .

Like any of our outdoor projects, JJ Kelly Park came with its share of challenges. Weather conditions and underground services, such as hidden cables, were just some of the variables that required careful management along the way.
