Spatial awareness is the ability of a child to understand where they are in relation to objects or where objects or structures are in relation to each other.

It also refers to understanding how an object changes in relation to them when they move.

Now, this may sound like a really basic skill (which it is) that every child would get automatically (they should) in their daily activities (but they don’t anymore)! Too much screen time has an effect on so many basic skills that we take for granted.

So it involves very simple actions like reaching out to grab something and knowing how far to stretch. Then if I pull myself towards that object how other things around me change as a result.

Spatial Awareness

It’s an exceptionally important cognitive skill for children and must be learnt early in their lives. Good spatial awareness skills result in increased dexterity, a great sense of balance, flexibility and whole body strength if it is gained by actions such as climbing.

This is where rope play equipment that moves comes into it!

Why is rope based play equipment so good for spatial awareness? If you’ve ever seen monkeys swinging through leafy treetops or acrobats flying between tight ropes and trapeze bars you’ve seen exceptional spatial awareness skills at work. Well designed, movement based, play equipment is possibly the perfect solution to teaching children spatial awareness.

And the best part is they learn it without realising!
