A story of evolution: from Capital to Connect

Whimbrel Avenue Park holds a special place in Moduplay’s history. Decades ago, one of our founding family members installed a Moduplay Challenger unit built on the Capital system, once the benchmark of Australian playground design.
Now, years later, that much-loved play space has been transformed with the installation of the latest Moduplay innovation: the Connect Outlander. This evolution from Capital to Connect highlights how far playground design has come, both in terms of play value and safety, and reflects the City of Wollongong’s continued trust in Moduplay to deliver future-proof play spaces for their community.
Designed for today, built to last
The new Connect Outlander sits at the heart of the reserve, offering a striking combination of towers, climbing walls, rope challenges, interactive panels, and a thrilling tunnel slide, bringing big play to every age group. The nature-inspired colour palette complements the surrounding bushland and coastal views, ensuring the playground blends seamlessly into its environment.
The play space also features:
Every piece of play is carefully selected to encourage not only physical activity but also imaginative and social play.
Why this matters: community, connection, and local pride
This upgrade is more than just a new playground, it’s a showcase of Moduplay’s commitment to continual improvement and to the communities we serve. By replacing an aging structure with a modern, inclusive, and sustainable solution, we’ve ensured that Whimbrel Avenue Park will remain a gathering place for generations to come.
- Local impact: Designed and manufactured right here in Wollongong, this playground was truly made for the community, by the community.
- Product innovation: The shift from Capital to Connect brings improved safety, accessibility, durability, and play value.
- Enduring partnerships: The City of Wollongong’s ongoing relationship with Moduplay reflects the trust built over decades of local collaboration.
A true transformation
From early consultation through to final installation, the transformation at Whimbrel Park is a testament to the passion and dedication of everyone involved, from the design team who carefully balanced form and function, to the construction crew who brought it to life on site.
The result is a thoughtfully crafted play space that balances heritage with innovation, delivering a playground that reflects the needs and character of Lake Heights today.
