Bridgeview Reserve

When Georges River Council replaced the ageing playground at Bridgeview Reserve, the goal was to create a vibrant new playspace with something for everyone. Working directly with Council, Moduplay delivered a nautical-themed playground centred around a configured Boatswain, with climbing, swinging, sensory play and a continuous learn-to-ride track bringing the wider space to life.

Designed with community in mind

Before the playground took shape, Georges River Council went straight to the people who knew the Reserve best.

Community consultation asked locals about the equipment they valued, the ages the playground should cater for, potential themes and how they already used Bridgeview Reserve. That feedback was then considered alongside playground standards and the wider needs of the community when developing the final design.

As Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said during the consultation:

Council is committed to creating spaces that reflect the needs and desires of the community. Bridgeview Reserve is a much-loved local park, and we want to ensure its playground continues to be a place where children and families can play, connect, and enjoy the outdoors.

Everyone can find their way to play

A good playground gives children choice. Bridgeview Reserve was planned with the principles of the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play resource in mind, which supports the creation of playspaces that are more inclusive of everyone in the community.

Here, that thinking comes through in the variety of ways children can engage with the space. Accessible pathways connect the playground, while swings, sensory panels, ground-level activities, climbing and balance play create different entry points into play.

For those looking for a bigger physical challenge, The Ladder from the Quartz range adds a more demanding climbing experience. For a different pace, there are sensory elements to explore, swings to choose from and plenty happening closer to ground level.

It means children do not all need to play the same way, at the same level or at the same pace to find something for them.

All aboard the Boatswain

The nautical theme gives Bridgeview Reserve its personality, and the configured Boatswain sits right at the centre of it.

Starting with a product from Moduplay’s Theme range, the unit was configured to suit the playground and create a larger play experience. Its boat form sets the scene, while sea and animal-themed details continue beyond the main structure and into the wider playspace.

No nautical playground is complete without a local pelican keeping watch. The Pelican Rocker brings another playful character into the mix.

The theme does more than decorate the equipment. It gives children a setting they can build stories around, turning climbing, sliding and moving through the playground into something imaginative as well as physical.
