When the Community Chooses Play: Edinboro Street Reserve
Community consultation plays a direct role in the success of a playground, this is exactly how Edinboro Street Reserve came to be. Rather than being presented with a single solution, locals were invited to choose between two distinct design approaches. The preferred option prioritised higher play capacity and a broader mix of activities, even without a large built shade structure.

A Community-Led Connect Project in Western Australia
Edinboro Street Reserve is a clear example of Connect delivering real outcomes, designed, built and already in use in Western Australia.
Working with City of Vincent, this neighbourhood play space was shaped through direct community input, with residents helping define what the space needed to be. The result is a compact but high-performing play space that supports inclusive, everyday play and reflects how the community actually uses the park.
For Moduplay, the design challenge was making a compact neighbourhood park work harder. Using the flexibility of the Connect system, the final design layers play in a way that feels open and easy for families of different types to navigate.
What’s in the Play Space
The finished layout brings a Connect Unit and supporting equipment to encourage high energy, balanced with shared and inclusive experiences.
- A Connect Multiplay Unit and matching Skyrail for exploration and active play
- Kookie Rocker and Inclusive Saucer helping foster play for all abilities
- Capital Double Bay Junior Swing, a crowd-favourite staple
- Australian Bush Story Panel adding story telling and sensory engagement
All equipment was designed and manufactured in Australia by Moduplay, built to stand the test of time.
In the Video: The People Behind The Project
The video features insights from Ben at City of Vincent and Nick from PlayPro, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the finished space. The City of Vincent guided the vision and community engagement, PlayPro delivered the installation on site, and Moduplay handled the design and manufacture.
It includes two City of Vincent playgrounds: Edinboro Street Reserve as the primary focus, alongside Beatty Park Reserve, showcasing Moduplay’s broader work with the council across Western Australia.
Together, this partnership turned community input into a practical, well-used neighbourhood play space, now active on the ground in WA.
Why This Matters
Edinboro Street Reserve demonstrates how meaningful community input can shape real design outcomes. By prioritising play value and capacity, this project shows how councils and designers can deliver engaging, inclusive play without relying on scale alone.
For teams planning future neighbourhood parks, it’s a reminder that clear choices, community trust and thoughtful design can make even small spaces work harder.
