Mt Victoria Park

Delivered for Blue Mountains City Council with Better View Landscapes, Mt Victoria Park transforms the existing playground footprint into a more varied playspace for locals and visitors. With climbing, spinning, sliding and junior play all working together, the result is a well-rounded playground that gives people another reason to stop and stay.

Play that keeps you coming back

There is no single hero piece at Mt Victoria Park, and that is part of what makes it work. The playground is designed as an experience to move through, with different challenges and types of play connected across the space.

The Connect Champion Multi Play unit forms the main circuit-style play experience. Rather than simply climbing up and coming back down, children can work their way through the structure, choosing between different climbing routes and challenges along the way. An integrated SkyRail adds another layer of movement and gives children something completely different to tackle within the same unit.

It creates the kind of play where there is always another way around, another route to try or another challenge to come back to.

Making the design work

Inclusive play is not always about one piece of equipment. It is also about how children can enter, move through and use a playspace in different ways.

Wetpour rubber playground surfacing provides accessible routes into key sections of Mt Victoria Park, supporting children and carers with different walking abilities and those using wheels.

The diversity of play is just as important. Different ages, confidence levels and abilities can find something within the playground that works for them, whether that is climbing through the Connect unit, taking on the SkyRail, spinning, sliding or exploring the junior play space.

A playground that belongs in Mt Victoria

The playspace sits amongst the mature trees and generous grassed areas that give Mt Victoria Park much of its character. Rather than trying to dominate the setting, the new playground adds another reason to use it. The natural colour pallet the playground has aids in the playground connecting to place.

Families can play, picnic and spread out across the grass, while visitors travelling through Mount Victoria have somewhere worth stopping for.

By getting more play value, variety and accessibility into the existing playground footprint, the project has given the park a stronger purpose without losing what already makes the setting special.
