A Local Park Reimagined

Tucked into a leafy cul-de-sac off Mingoola Street, Mingoola Reserve has long been a popular neighbourhood park for local families. But before this upgrade, the playground itself hadn’t kept pace with how heavily it was being used.

The existing equipment was dated and largely stock-standard; it was functional, but limited in challenge, creativity, and long-term play value. Importantly, the existing shade sail was retained, preserving much-needed sun protection for families using the space. With young families regularly using the space, there was a clear opportunity to do more: to increase engagement, cater to a wider range of ages, and give the park a stronger sense of identity.

A Unique Theme With Real Impact

Mingoola’s choice of design features are thoughtful to different ages, with a mix of low-level play, climbing, swinging, rocking and imaginative play. Younger children are greeted with themed town elements, one being a grocery store, the other a cafe style with a play panel next to it showing what’s on offer.

While a grocery store theme might raise an eyebrow at first, it’s brilliantly spot-on! Imaginative role play based on everyday real-world scenes is a powerhouse for early childhood development. In this safe, welcoming space, kids mimic grown-up moments, building confidence, independence, and social skills with every pretend transaction and food order.

Features That Complete the Space

Right at the heart is a Connect multi-play unit, delivering layered play and lots of choice.

Complementing the main structure are additional features like the Twista spinner, Toastie rocker, and classic swings, ensuring variety.

Designed for Community

A great community playground captures the spirit of the people who’ll use it every day. At Mingoola Reserve, the design shines by responding perfectly to local families, delivering smiles and active play for the kids enjoying it right now, and for generations who’ll grow up exploring its wonders.

This project is a strong example of how thoughtful design by Urban Play, paired with Moduplay’s equipment, can create a playspace that is imaginative, functional, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
