Jason Bailey, Park Manager at Park Beach Holiday Park, called us to discuss their underutilised Tennis Court area. “Could it be successfully transformed into a teenage activity zone? Instead of entertaining 4 tennis players at once, could it potentially take care of dozens of young people during their holiday time at the park?” We brainstormed with Jason and his staff. The design was to include a Sports Court - half court basketball and futsal goal; a rope jungle challenge course, large rotating dish, chess and outdoor table tennis and a high climbing structure with a viewing area. Jason also noticed the tendency of teenagers to simply lounge around using their phones, so “the jewel in the crown”, was to be the new teen retreats where teenagers could safely chill out and play music through the built-in, waterproof speakers. After several iterations the design and costs for the area were successfully finalised in a competitive quotation process and manufacture commenced in early 2014. The project was completed in time for the Easter 2014 school holidays and has been an outstanding success for Park Beach and their visitors. The new Teentubes feature Bluetooth connectable speakers and 2 levels of seating on each side. As Jason has commented, the whole play area has worked exactly as planned giving the kids somewhere to work out with fast and furious play then a fun retreat where they can just “chill”.
